Editing Diary 5

Today I began editing the footage filmed on the 24/01/15. Because the audio of the footage contained a continuous buzz throughout, I had to use Adobe Audition to try and get rid of the noise.
In audition, I selected part of the audio that contained the buzz and captured the noise print. This allowed me to go into the Noise Reduction and edit the amount of noise reduction put onto the whole clip. Although this did get rid of the buzzing, the overall audio quality was reduced which made me decide to plan to reshoot the parts with the bad audio after the audience feedback from my rough cut was gathered.

Production Diary 10

This week I have filmed with both Billie and her younger sister at their house. I have also continued editing in order to create my rough cut for my Documentary to present for audience feedback. I have also took some behind the scenes photographs and posted them in a blog post.
I will spend the next two weeks editing my footage.

Risk Assessment/Location Recce 4

Here is my risk assessment:

Filming Production Diary 3

Today I filmed more of the interview with my friend - because I have filmed on two separate occasions with her, it was important that she dressed the same so that it isn't inconsistent. The interview sections that I filmed include her talking more about why being "Emo" is so controversial, including a real life case of The Daily Mail picking up on a story about a suicide of an "Emo" girl and attacking her favourite band because of it. Additionally, I filmed a section where she talks about concerts, and the different aspects that make up the experience of attending a concert.  This part of the interview will be the final section of the interview, leading into a concert video from Frnk Iero and the Cellabration. Because the documentary is only the first 5 minutes of a documentary, this section of concert footage would be the transition from the "Emo" fan into a fan of a different music genre.

Behind the Scenes Photographs

Here are some photographs from behind the scenes of the filming of the interviews.

Here is the setup of the camera and microphone in regards to the interviews.

Production Diary 9

This week I have continued filming my Documentary at Billie's house, filming mostly the interview parts. Additionally, I began to create my Production Company Logo, starting by getting feedback from other classmates on the draft logos to see which logo they liked best and what I could do to improve it.
Next week I will continue filming with Billie and her younger sister Kelsey.

Final Production Company Logo: Timelapse

Here is a timelapse GIF file of the making process of my production company logo. I made the file using the website: MakeaGif.

Final Production Company Logo

After reviewing my feedback for my draft logos, I created my final production company logo.

First I created a circle in the centre of the page. Next I created a round-corner triangle using this tutorial online. After duplicating the triangle, I placed both in the centre of the circle - one bigger than the other to look like a "fast-forward" symbol. Afterwards, I added in the same text as the draft logo, this time altering it so that part of the A and W had an arrow-head on them - I created the arrow-head triangle using the line tool. Then, after getting peer-feedback, I decided that the text would look better slightly overlapping the circumference of the circle. Finally, I added a line below the text, using the polygonal lasso to cut out part of the line so that the sides were tapered. I finally duplicated the line above the text.

Production Company Logo Draft: Feedback

Upon Consulting my classmates, I received feedback on which logo looks better, along with advice on what I could do to improve.
The main points I have considered are:
  • The circle logo looks better
  • The red text looks unprofessional
  • The logo looks too empty
  • The logo could use something behind the text
Here is the logo that they liked best:

Editing Diary 4

Today I began merging the audio and video for the footage filmed on the 10.01.15. I then started to add the footage intro the timeline that consisted of the introduction and first lot of edited interview footage. Alongside this footage, I placed the song Ammonia and Bleach by Emily's Army in the background at a low volume.

Filming Production Diary 2

Today I began filming the first section of the interview to take place in the documentary. The interview involves Billie introducing herself and introducing the concept of "Emo" and when she started listening to that particular genre of music. Additionally, she discussed how her family reacted when she started listening to rock music, and dressing stereotypical "Emo". This part of the interviews will act as a transition to cut to an interview with her Mam, Dot.

Production Dairy 8

Today I have created two draft logos for my production company using Photoshop. I made sure that the draft logos were simplistic, as doing so allows for improvement through adding new features.

Here are the two Draft Logos:

Next week I will consult people in my class and ask their advice on which logo they prefer, along with their opinion on what may strengthen the aesthetics of the logo.

Production Logo Draft: Creation

In order to create a draft of a production company logo, I used Photoshop to experiment with shapes and fonts.

Here is the process of creating my draft company logos:

First I set up my page size to be a square: 10.16/10.16 Centimeters. I also made sure the resolution was 300.

Next I selected the Ellipse under the Shape Tool and created a circle that was in the centre of the page.
Inside the circle I added in the text "AW" in a red font. I decided to use the font "Castellar Regular"

Here is the draft of the logo once I completed it:

I also created the same logo but inside a square.

Production Diary 7

This week I have created both my Ancillary Task Flat Plans on Microsoft Publisher, using my knowledge and being inspired by Ancillary Tasks that I deconstructed previously to decide what will work best for my documentary.

I also emailed RCA records in order to request permission to use the 1974 song "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie, from the "Diamond Dogs" album in my documentary. The song, I have decided, will be the song that is used in my introduction. My introduction will be a montage of concert footage clips that I have took with the audio muted and the song "Rebel Rebel" being played instead of the concert audio. The song will be used as a background song whilst a voice over introduces the documentary and the "issues" of teenage music "obsessiveness".

Music Permission 3

For the introduction to my documentary, I will create a short montage of concert footage from several different concerts that I have attended. The audio of each concert footage clip will be muted, with one singular song playing in the background whilst a voice over will introduce the documentary and the 'issues' surrounding music fans/obsessiveness.
The song in which I have decided to use for the background music is "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie, from the "Diamond Dogs" album. In order to use this song, I have emailed RCA records to request permission to use the song.
In order to make the song fit the short introduction, I will edit it using a music editing software such as Audacity and shorten it to the desired length.

Here is the email I sent:

Ancillary Task 2 Flatplans

I created this Flat Plan using Microsoft Publisher - the actual Ancillary Task will be created using Photoshop. As most Newspaper Adverts are pretty small, this ad will be around A5 size.

Ancillary Task 1 Flat Plans

Here is my Ancillary Task 1 Flat Plan for the Double-Page Spread from a listings Magazine:

I created the Flat Plans using Microsoft Publisher - I will create the main Ancillary task using Adobe In Design. I decided, after deconstructing the three Ancillary Tasks from the listings magazine, I found that I wanted my task to mimic the style of the "The Boys From Brazil" article. I liked how the article included screenshots from the TV Documentary with small pieces of text about that particular screenshot. Additionally, I like how each image has a white border, making it look like a Polaroid photograph on a pinboard. This style reflects the topic of the documentary being casual and about teenagers.

Inspiration for Article Layout

Editing Diary 3

Today I created the minute-long introduction to the documentary. As it is a laid-back style documentary about teenagers, I decided that I would use a montage of concert clips as the introduction. I muted the audio of the edited concert clips so that I could include the song Rebel Rebel by David Bowie - I edited the song down to a minute.

Editing Diary 2

Today I began editing the interview footage that I filmed with Billie. I started by renaming all of the audio and video files so that I know which piece of audio is to match which piece of film. After doing this, I imported these files into Adobe Premiere Pro and began to merge the audio with the matched  video files - when doing this, I removed the audio from the video AV file to avoid the echo from the camera's audio being prominent. I then selected the in and out points of each file and placed them onto a timeline/sequence in order to put the clips together, adding in cross-dissolves where needed.
