Advanced Portfolio Initial Ideas & Audience Feedback

Overall the feedback I got on my main idea was fairly positive. In terms of feedback given on other ideas from Briefs I had, many stated that the ideas were similar and pretty simple to do. However, when it came to the feedback for my main idea - the documentary about music fans - many people stated that it was a good idea, with only a few drawbacks being that, being a documentary, the script would be difficult to write in order for it to seem real and natural. In addition, including many camera shots/movements would be difficult as it is not a film or a music video. In order to include as many camera shots/movements as possible, I will research/watch different types of documentaries in order to gather research onto which camera shots/movements are commonly used, so that I could apply those to my documentary.

  1. Abbie, I think your chosen idea has promise, and you have already started research into documentary conventions, which will be very helpful when it comes to planning your project. I would suggest being clear about what it is that you are trying to say with your documentary - is there a particular angle that you are looking to explore? Obsessiveness? Fandom? How music can shape identity? Or some other role it plays in life? Having a clear focus on where you are going will be crucial in terms of planning your interview questions, etc.
